New method simplifies soil nitrogen testing, saving time and resources.
Researchers developed a cost-effective method to measure ammonium and nitrate levels in small, nitrogen-poor soil samples. They modified colorimetric techniques, used centrifugation to prevent contamination, and saved on equipment and chemicals. Testing on 30 soils with varying nitrogen levels showed that the modified methods gave accurate results compared to standard methods. Additionally, ammonium nitrate added to some soils was successfully detected.
