The EU enlargement is helping to bring the EU and Russia closer together, rather than driving them apart. Russia wants to avoid new divisions after the EU expands, and this paper argues that the enlargement could actually lead to more cooperation between the EU and Russia. This would benefit Russia. The paper looks at how the EU enlargement affects Russia and explores key ideas guiding the relationship between the EU and Russia: New Neighbourhood, Common Spaces, and Eastern dimension.
