New Study Reveals Optimal Mineral Requirements for Goat Weight Gain
The study aimed to understand the body composition and mineral requirements for weight gain in kid goats on pasture. They used 24 goats, giving them different levels of concentrate feed. The goats were slaughtered when one reached 30kg. The body composition showed varying amounts of calcium, phosphorus, sodium, and potassium per kg of body weight. The net requirements for calcium, phosphorus, and sodium also varied. For goats weighing between 15 and 30 kg, the potassium requirement for weight gain was found to be 0.98 mg per gram.
