Belief Superiority Leads to Resistance: The Rise of Social Vigilantism
Social vigilantism measures how strongly people try to push their beliefs onto others and resist being persuaded. Studies found that those high in social vigilantism tend to feel superior about their beliefs, resist changing their minds when presented with new information, and are more likely to argue against opposing views. These findings hold true even when considering other personality traits like narcissism and dogmatism. This research helps us understand how people spread their beliefs and why some are more resistant to changing their minds.
