Bamboo fibers transformed into sustainable textile revolution
Researchers studied how to improve the removal of natural bamboo fibers' outer layer by using steam explosion. They found that higher steam pressure and longer pressure maintenance time increased the removal rate. The fibers became softer and separated better with stronger steam explosion. By combining steam explosion with alkali boiling, they reduced hemicelluloses and lignin content while increasing cellulose content in the fibers. This method was more effective than just using alkali boiling or steam explosion alone. The fibers also became smoother and thinner after the treatment.
