Hygroscopic seeding boosts rain formation in clouds, altering precipitation patterns.
The study looked at how adding certain salt particles to clouds can affect the size and development of cloud droplets. Using computer models, researchers found that smaller salt particles can help create more raindrops, while larger ones may cause rain to fall too soon. Adding too many salt particles doesn't always make more rain. For mixed-phase clouds, adding salt particles can lead to the formation of icy particles and reduce liquid droplets. Overall, using smaller salt particles between 0.5 and 6 micrometers in size seems to have the best effect on cloud development.
