New soil water capacity study reveals impact on land use planning.
The plant-available water capacity of soil, important for land use planning, was studied in a Cerrado Oxisol profile. Different methods were used to estimate wilting point and field capacity. The field capacity moisture at the inflection point was higher than other methods, and estimates varied based on the model used. The WP4-T psychrometer found lower water content than the permanent wilting point estimate. The estimation of available water holding capacity is greatly influenced by the methods used, which is crucial due to the practical importance of this parameter.
