Five types of fish were studied in 1998 from two rivers near the Housatonic River in Massachusetts. The fish closest to where the rivers meet had more PCBs, a harmful chemical. The fish in the two rivers had similar levels of PCBs. The fish likely moved between the main river and the tributaries, carrying the PCBs with them.
