Silver barb enhances Indian major carp growth in polyculture systems.
The researchers studied how well silver barb fish can grow alongside three types of Indian major carp in a 10-month trial. They found that adding silver barb to the mix didn't harm the survival of any carp species or change the overall amount of fish produced, except when catla was absent. Silver barb and rohu fish competed more than silver barb and mrigal fish. But overall, adding silver barb to the mix didn't affect the total amount of fish produced, showing that it can be included in Indian major carp polyculture without reducing the total yield.
