Researchers used fingerprints and a mixing model to identify sources of sediment in the River Ouse and River Wharfe. They found that uncultivated topsoil, cultivated topsoil, and channel banks were major sources in the River Ouse, while the River Wharfe had more sediment from uncultivated topsoil and channel banks. Woodland topsoil also contributed a small amount.
