Researchers measured sulfuric acid and sulfate emissions from boilers burning low-sulfur fuel. They found that sulfuric acid accounted for at least 11% of the emissions. The conversion of sulfur dioxide to primary sulfate was lower than previously thought, especially when considering sulfate ions in the solution. The study suggests improvements in measurement methods and calculations for sulfur conversion.
