A classification system for land use and cover in China was developed using remote sensing data. The system includes four scales: national, regional, county, and country. At the national scale, the classes include agriculture land, woodland, natural grassland, built-up land, water, wetland, and barren land. The system is based on vegetation, soil, water, and surface characteristics. The framework provides guidelines for managing land resources, with specific details for different scales in China.
