Nuclear power generation in Japan has been steadily growing since 1963, with plans to install a power station with a capacity of 600-700MW in the near future. It is expected that one-third of electricity in Japan will come from nuclear power within ten years. The cost of electricity produced by nuclear power is estimated to be competitive with thermal power. Japan aims to develop its own nuclear industry by focusing on home production of power plants and new type reactors.
