Fungi treatment boosts nutritional value of wheat and barley straw.
The study looked at how treating wheat and barley straw with Pleurotus florida fungi affects their nutritional value. The researchers mixed the straw with the fungi, dried it, and then tested its digestibility in the rumen of sheep. They found that the fungi treatment decreased the amount of indigestible fibers in the straw, while increasing the protein and ash content. The digestibility of both dry matter and organic matter in the straw improved after treatment with the fungi. Overall, the study showed that using Pleurotus florida fungi can make wheat and barley straw more nutritious for animals.
