New study reveals how cucumber plants adapt to low-light stress! 🌿🔆
Low light stress affects cucumber plants in greenhouses. Two cucumber genotypes, Deltastar and Jinyan No. 2, were studied to see how they respond to low light. The researchers looked at how gas exchange, chlorophyll fluorescence, stomatal opening, and Rubisco activity changed in the plants when exposed to low light conditions. They found that both stomatal and biochemical factors limit leaf photosynthesis during the induction process. However, biochemical factors were more important at the beginning, while stomatal factors became more significant later on. Jinyan No. 2, the low light-sensitive genotype, took longer to start photosynthesis, had lower photosynthetic rates, and showed differences in chlorophyll fluorescence and Rubisco activity compared to Deltastar.
