New method bridges gap in modeling seismic waves for accurate predictions.
The study tested different methods for modeling seismic waves in different types of rock formations. They found that a new approach called the quasi-isotropic (QI) method works well in regions with weak anisotropy, where other methods don't work properly. The QI method can also be used in isotropic regions and even in moderately strong anisotropy. This means that a modeling program that switches between these methods as needed can accurately model seismic waves in all types of rock formations.
