Open source software allows anyone to access, modify, and share the code freely. This study looks at how software development processes in open source environments can be analyzed using metrics. The researchers found that different types of users and developers play important roles in the open source community. By studying the development processes of fifty different open-source software programs, they were able to validate their metric-based approach.
