Unlocking Genetics Understanding: Reasoning Skills Key to Student Success
Students who understand genetics concepts better tend to have strong reasoning abilities and prefer meaningful learning over rote memorization. A study with 586 eleventh-grade students found that those with higher logical thinking skills and a focus on understanding rather than memorization performed better on genetics tests. In fact, reasoning ability had a greater impact on test scores than learning approaches. This suggests that actively thinking about and connecting genetic concepts leads to a deeper understanding compared to simply memorizing information.
