Fatal crashes on high-speed roads cost over $1.6 million each.
The study estimated the costs of different types of car crashes in the United States. They looked at crashes of varying severity levels and types, on roads with different speed limits. The most expensive crashes were non-intersection fatal/disabling injury crashes on high-speed roads. Run-off-road collisions, including rollovers and object impacts, made up a large portion of the total costs. The findings can help in designing safer roads and vehicles to reduce the harm caused by crashes.
