Pension systems in Macedonia were facing a crisis due to socio-economic reasons. Reforms were initiated in 1993 and major changes were made in 2006 and 2009, introducing new pillars for pension and disability insurance. The goal was to create a more effective system. The reformed pension system is expected to benefit individuals and the economy as a whole.
