Coastal Zooplankton Study Reveals Surprising Seasonal Shifts in Marine Ecosystems
Zooplankton in the Bay of Blanes were studied over a year to see how they change. Different types of tiny animals dominated at different times of the year. In summer and autumn, small copepods and cladocerans were common, while in winter and spring, larger copepods were more abundant. The study found that using a smaller net caught more zooplankton than a larger net, showing the importance of sampling all sizes to understand the whole community.
