Soil texture predicts water availability for better irrigation planning and design.
This study found a way to estimate how much water soil can hold for plants to use. They looked at soil textures and how much water they can hold at different depths. They found that soil with more clay can hold more water. Also, soil with more carbonate can hold even more water. But if the soil is too dense, it can't hold as much water. This information can help with designing irrigation systems for different types of soil.
