Crop residue management boosts wheat yields and soil health in India.
The study looked at how adding pulses to crop rotations, managing crop residues, and using nitrogen fertilizer affect soil nutrients and wheat yields. They did field experiments in northern India from 2009 to 2012. Keeping crop residues in the field increased wheat yields, especially when legumes were grown before. Applying nitrogen fertilizer to maize also boosted wheat yields. Overall, managing crop residues well and using nitrogen fertilizer or legumes can improve soil health and increase wheat productivity in low-nitrogen soils.
