Coastal erosion in Barents Sea threatens communities with rapid land loss.
Coastal erosion is happening near Varandey in the Barents Sea due to human activities, not thermal abrasion. One site is eroding at 2.0 m/year, removing 170,000 km3 of material annually. Another site erodes at 5 m/year. With sea levels rising, erosion rates may increase in the future.
