Regional policies have shifted towards promoting economic growth through innovation, targeting enterprises instead of just infrastructure. However, getting enterprises involved in regional development is not automatic. The article examines how Swiss experiences with innovation-focused policies can help mobilize enterprises for regional innovation. It discusses the current role of enterprises in regional policies, factors influencing their involvement, and suggests ways to design effective regional innovation policies and governance structures.
