Active Zinc in Soil Solution Determines Bioavailability, Impacting Agricultural Productivity.
The study looked at how different factors in soil affect the amount of active zinc in the soil solution of 62 agricultural soils in Poland. They found that the level of active zinc in the soil solution mainly depends on the soil's pH, more than other soil properties like texture or organic matter. The main forms of zinc in the soil solution are active zinc ions, making up 60% to almost 80% of all zinc forms present. The order of zinc forms in the soil solution from highest to lowest percentage is Zn-DOC, ZnCO3, ZnCl+, ZnHCO3+, ZnOH+.
