New formula predicts plant damage from sunlight exposure, aiding crop growth.
The researchers studied how the activity of photosystem II (PSII) in cotton leaves changes with temperature using chlorophyll a fluorescence measurements. They found a way to predict PSII inactivation based on these measurements. By comparing the predicted and actual levels of PSII inactivation, they estimated the rate of PSII recovery in cotton leaves exposed to suboptimal morning temperatures.
