The article introduces a new method for dealing with the problem of making multiple comparisons in scientific studies. Instead of focusing on controlling the familywise error rate, the researchers suggest controlling the false discovery rate. This approach can be more powerful in certain situations. They developed a simple procedure to control the false discovery rate for independent test statistics, and their simulation study showed a significant increase in power.
