Thyroid Hormone T3 Found to Impact Pituitary Gland Function
The researchers wanted to see if T3 hormone could change how calcium is handled in the pituitary gland. They used rat pituitaries and found that T3 reduced the release of calcium when the pituitaries were exposed to TRH hormone. This led to a decrease in the release of TSH hormone. T3 also decreased the uptake of calcium in the pituitaries. These results suggest that T3 can alter how calcium is managed in the pituitary gland, which may be one way it inhibits the release of TSH hormone.
