Renewable energy can power 80% of the world by 2050, slashing emissions.
The Energy [R]evolution 2010 scenario aims to reduce global CO2 emissions to 3.7 Gt/a by 2050, limiting temperature increase to below 2°C. The researchers used a ten-region energy model to analyze energy supply strategies and found that renewable energy could meet over 80% of global energy needs by 2050. Developing countries can stabilize CO2 emissions by 2025 and reduce them after, while OECD countries could cut emissions by up to 90% by 2050. However, without strong energy efficiency measures, renewable energy alone may not be enough to achieve these emission reductions.
