Simplified floodplain analysis leads to inaccurate flood insurance rates.
The article compares simple and complex methods for analyzing floodplains in North Dakota. The goal was to see how accurate these methods are in determining flood insurance rates. The simplified methods are recommended for quick assessments, while the complex computer programs are better for areas where flood elevations greatly impact land development costs.
