Scientists have found a new way to estimate parameters and time delays using two channels. They used a method called coupled Karhunen-Loeve expansions to figure out the likelihood function. This new approach shows how maximum likelihood time-delay estimation is related to other methods. The researchers also did experiments to back up their ideas.
