New EPS technology in Brazil doubles energy storage capacity efficiently!
A new way to store energy from hydropower in Brazil's Amazon region has been developed. Instead of building large reservoirs, a combination of pumped-storage and cascade dams can store excess energy during the wet season and release it during the dry season. This method, called Enhanced-Pumped-Storage (EPS), can increase storage efficiency up to 90% and double the storage capacity of a watershed. This innovative approach could help Brazil generate more electricity from hydropower without causing significant environmental or social impacts.
