Coastal China's Zhujiang Delta faces rapid urban growth and cropland loss.
Land use in the Zhujiang Delta of China has changed rapidly in the past 20 years due to industrialization and urbanization. Using satellite remote sensing and GIS, researchers found significant urban growth and loss of cropland from 1989 to 1997. The land use change process is ongoing and not stable. Combining these technologies with Markov modelling helps describe and analyze the changes in land use patterns over time.
