A new low-cost hybrid powertrain design was created to save fuel in compact cars. It uses a flywheel module and CVT, without electric parts. The flywheel stores energy based on driving patterns. Simulations on a small car show fuel savings of 15% to 29% compared to the same car without the flywheel.
