Aquatic plant removal in streams affects benthic invertebrates and their habitat. Cutting plants decreased plant biomass and invertebrate numbers, especially those that use plants as habitat. Mobile and sediment-dwelling invertebrates were less affected. Invertebrates and plants recovered within 4-6 months, with recovery being faster in summer. Plant removal should be done in summer, leaving some plant beds for invertebrate refuges.
