Chinese English learners show weaker mental lexicons compared to native speakers.
The study looked at how Chinese people learning English associate words in their minds compared to native English speakers. Chinese English learners have different mental word networks than native speakers. They don't connect words as strongly or in organized ways. Their associations are more based on how words look rather than what they mean. This means their mental dictionaries for English words are not as developed as those of native speakers. These findings can help improve how English vocabulary is taught to Chinese learners.
