Grazing pressure threatens diverse alpine flora in Western Himalayas.
Western Himalayan alpine pastures in Kashmir, Pakistan were studied to understand the plant species living there. Four different plant communities were identified based on their importance. The area had a moderate level of species richness and diversity. The plants were mostly small with leaves adapted to the harsh environment. The study found that as altitude increased, the number of plant species decreased. Human activities like grazing had a negative impact on the growth of useful plants. To protect the diverse plant life in the region, conservation efforts are needed.
