Researchers studied how water is used for firefighting in five South African towns near Stellenbosch. They found that only a small percentage of fires were extinguished using water from the water distribution system directly. Most fires were put out using water from tanker vehicles. This suggests a need for better guidelines for firefighting in South Africa related to the water distribution system.
