Balanced fertilization boosts corn yield stability in northeastern China.
Mineral fertilizers and crop sequence can affect corn production sustainability in northeastern China. A study found that balanced fertilization and planting soybeans before corn can increase and stabilize corn yield. Soil organic carbon and total nitrogen levels decreased over 18 years, which could threaten sustainable agriculture. Nitrogen application may lead to soil acidification, but did not significantly reduce corn yield. The relationship between yield and aridity index was significant.
