Global soil classification system revolutionizes communication and enhances scientific applications.
The World Reference Base for Soil Resources (WRB) was created in 1998 to establish a common global language for classifying soils. It aims to harmonize soil classification worldwide by defining major soil groups and the criteria for separating them. The goal is to facilitate information exchange, strengthen soil science applications, and improve communication with other disciplines. The WRB is based on the FAO-UNESCO legend and includes 30 Soil Reference Groups with over 200 soil units. Its adoption by the International Union of Soil Sciences provides a framework for standardizing soil classification on a global scale.
