A study compared feeding fish with different protein levels from maize gluten and rice bran in two ponds. Fish in one pond had more maize gluten, while the other had more rice bran. The fish with more maize gluten grew bigger and produced more fish compared to the fish with more rice bran. The type of fish called Ctenopharyngodon idella did better in both ponds than the other types of fish. Overall, a mix of 3 parts maize gluten to 1 part rice bran was better for fish growth than a mix of 1 part maize gluten to 3 parts rice bran.
