Weed emergence reduced by Vicia villosa and Secale cereale residue rates
Hairy vetch and rye residue can reduce the growth of many weed species, but not all. Some weeds are more affected by residue than others. High residue rates can delay weed emergence and reduce the number of seedlings. Seed size doesn't always determine a weed's ability to grow through residue. Hairy vetch breaks down faster than rye, allowing more weed growth later in the season.
