New study shows waiting pays off more than instant gratification!
A study compared two tasks involving making choices between getting a small reward immediately or waiting for a bigger reward later. Participants played a video game where they had to decide when to shoot their weapon to do more damage. In one task, players had to commit to waiting if they didn't shoot within one second, while in the other task they could choose to wait or not. The results showed that players in the task where they had to commit to waiting were more likely to wait for the bigger reward and were less influenced by changing incentives compared to the other task.
