Energy Prices Sway Household Budgets Across OECD Nations
The article estimates how changes in prices and income affect the demand for energy in OECD countries from 1978 to 1999. They used a method called one-step GMM estimation on a panel data set. The results show that price has a bigger impact on electricity, natural gas, and gas oil demand than income, especially in homes compared to industries. The findings also suggest that earlier studies may have overestimated the effect of price on energy demand.
