Smallholder farmers worldwide benefit from transforming agricultural value chains.
Smallholder farmers in different countries are getting involved in new ways of selling their produce through supermarkets and other big buyers. Researchers studied how farmers and companies make agreements to work together. They looked at five countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to see how farmers benefit from these partnerships. They found that many farmers are joining these new systems, but some are not. Farmers who take part often make more money, but sometimes the agreements are not followed properly. The way farmers and companies work together is always changing, with new people joining and leaving all the time.
