A new method using computer technology has been developed to design aircraft box structures more efficiently. This method automates the design process by using pre-existing knowledge and rules to create a wide range of box configurations. By coupling this model with analysis tools, the goal is to optimize the design for minimum weight and cost without human input. The initial test case on the Gulfstream 650 rudder shows promising results.
