The article looks at how vulnerable US coastal counties are to erosion. By combining social and physical factors, researchers created a county-based index of overall coastal vulnerability. Results show that vulnerability varies along the coast, with the Gulf Coast more influenced by social factors, while the Pacific and Atlantic coasts are more affected by physical characteristics. It's clear that a mix of social, economic, built-environment, and physical factors determine erosion-hazard vulnerability in coastal counties.
