Spatial competition dynamics promote species coexistence through heteromyopia.
Competing species can coexist better when they have similar dynamics and compete over shorter distances than they interact with their own species. This study used a new method to show that when species segregate in space due to competition, it can actually help them live together peacefully. This is different from previous theories that said segregation doesn't help coexistence. So, if species compete more with others than with their own kind, they are more likely to coexist when they have similar behaviors.
