Aquatic plant fragments survive desiccation, aiding in eradication and dispersal predictions.
Aquatic plants can survive being dried out, but different species react differently to air exposure. By studying 10 types of aquatic plants, researchers found that the amount of mass lost accurately predicted whether the plant fragments would survive when put back in water. This information can help predict how plants spread, improve ways to get rid of them, and figure out how to dispose of them after removing them from lakes or equipment.
